Supporting people affected by peripheral neuropathy (PN) and neuropathic pain (NeuP), regardless of the cause.
Neuropathy World is a UK-registered Community Interest Company. We support people affected by peripheral neuropathy and neuropathic pain, regardless of the cause.
Our Director, Andrew Keen, previously founded and led the Neuropathy Trust from 1998 to 2015. The Neuropathy Trust was a UK based Registered Charity that helped thousands of people worldwide. Neuropathy World aims to build on that legacy for the benefit of patients, families, carers, and healthcare professionals.
Neuropathy World is not-for-profit organisation. This means all profits are reinvested into projects that benefit the neuropathy community.
Our mission is to provide comprehensive resources, foster community connections, and advocate for greater awareness and better treatment of these conditions.
At Neuropathy World, we are dedicated to:
Raising awareness: Educating the public about the impact of peripheral neuropathy and neuropathic pain on quality of life and the importance of early recognition.
Enhancing healthcare education: Equipping healthcare providers, especially those with a focus on these conditions, with the knowledge to effectively diagnose and manage neuropathy and neuropathic pain.
Supporting patients and families: Offering the latest information and resources to help those affected make informed decisions about their health and lifestyle.
Advocating for better care: Striving for equal access to high-quality care and treatment for everyone, regardless of their location.
Fostering collaboration: Improving communication between patients, healthcare providers, and industry stakeholders to elevate care standards and outcomes.
We are here to support, inform, and work together towards a better future for everyone affected by peripheral neuropathy and neuropathic pain.
Paralysed in his early 20s, Andrew faced over 70 hospital appointments and more than a decade of uncertainty before receiving a diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy. Despite this, the underlying cause of his condition remains a mystery. Yet, Andrew’s story is not one of despair but one of resilience and hope.
I cannot complete this mission alone. Please consider becoming a subscribing member of the Neuropathy World Community. By joining, you can help us raise awareness of peripheral neuropathy and neuropathic pain, improving the lives of those affected by these conditions. Registration takes just minutes and is completely free.
Many thanks.
Andrew
Peripheral neuropathy is a common and often distressing condition. It affects around 2,400 per 100,000 people (2.4%), with the rate rising to about 8,000 per 100,000 people (8%) as people age.
Peripheral neuropathy impacts the nerves outside your brain and spinal cord. Imagine your nerves as a network of wires that carry signals throughout your body, enabling you to feel sensations like touch, temperature, and pain, as well as control your muscle movements. When these nerves are damaged, as in the case of peripheral neuropathy, the signals can become disrupted, leading to a wide range of symptoms that can drastically affect your quality of life.
We have published an information page titled “Peripheral Neuropathy Gets on Your Nerves,” which delves into the intricacies of peripheral neuropathy and neuropathic pain.
Our aim is to provide you with a comprehensive, unbiased insight into peripheral neuropathy and its frequent companion, neuropathic pain. Whether you’ve recently been diagnosed, are caring for a loved one, or simply wish to learn more about these conditions, we strive to offer clear and accurate information. We hope that by exploring the resources available here, you will feel empowered to manage symptoms more effectively, make informed decisions about your healthcare, and ultimately improve your overall well-being.
